SRD Shorts: Locked Down

SRD Shorts: Locked Down

You might die of boredom before it’s safe to go out and lick your friends. Moon for the Switch may not come out soon enough to save you from cabin fever. You need something now. How about an accidentally relatable reality show about a group of room mates, locked down with their pets and unable to leave until at least next year?

SRD Shorts: Fash It and Forget It

Has anyone ever bought a Sham Wow? I know the ads are a little extreme but what if that guy is just legitimately excited about how cool his rag is? Maybe if we all tried it, we’d be excited too. What I’m saying is, this show is technically an ad but we gave them a pass because… this product may be a little too relevant for some.

I’m just going to come out and say it. I need a hero. I’m holding out for a hero ‘til the end of the night. That said, if he doesn’t show up, maybe I can get five environmentally concerned kids to use their combined powers to summon an all new and legally unique ecological hero, Captain World!

SRD Shorts: Photo Real

Art is important. Spending all of one’s time on art is sometimes the most refreshing and rewarding thing a person can do. This piece is an homage to some of the most serious artistes out there. The ones who really ought to be in their studios practicing their craft instead of at the craft store judging your choice of acrylics. You’re going to glue googlie eyes to the thing too but this expert seems to think you need the french pigments… that one.

Enthusiasm is important. We strive to bring excitement to everything we do. Sometimes, that means just saying everything in as happy a tone as possible while all you can think about is that last ice cream bar in the back of the freezer and whether it feels sadness. Enjoy yet another moment of excitement from someone else’s mundane existence in this fresh short!

SRD Shorts: Shakespearacy Theories

There comes a time in the life of any great piece of literature in which every single possible interpretation has been levied at it by well meaning literature students who are just trying to get through this class so that they can take the one with that one really cool professor who roasts his own coffee in the lecture hall. Shakespeare has gotten more that his fair share of hot takes, deep dives, metadata analyses and cultural studies. Here we collect some of the most extreme, mind bending attempts to make sense of the Bard of Avon.

SRD Shorts: A Lair with Flair

Super heroes are big right now. Maybe its something to do with the lure of being able to solve world ending problems with a couple buddies instead of needing literally every human on earth to throttle a millionaire personally or wear a mask. The good news is that while no matter how many meteors we touch no one on the staff has gained super powers, we are all wearing masks. That feels like part of the way to needing our very own specially designed lair with lava rivers and stainless steel accents. This show came along at just the right time!

SRD Shorts: Time Bridge

Bridges are magical. They stand as a testament to humanity's willingness to say “screw you, nature. I’m walking here.” whether nature decided to put a river or a gorge or just some air in the place where we’ve decided to travel. Look at the Skyway. If that’s not a monument to hubris then I don’t know what is. Heck, in some places they make them in different shapes like the letters “s” and “y” or they put covers on them. We sure do love bridges. So you’re sure to love this short piece about a very special bridge.

Has anyone else started to find zoom calls comforting? There’s something about tucking your work shirt into a pair of yoga pants and pouring a little bourbon into a coffee mug that reminds you that old school meetings were only good because there were bagels sometimes. Our cats, on the other hand, may be ready for us to get back to the office and it’s nothing to do with your lack of slacks.

Is the next best thing to human interaction a live yeast colony? Maybe the bread you make from it? There’s one way to find out. Now that a lot of us are getting pretty good at forming a boule, Missy O’ Danagher has come up with a podcast to help motivate you in the kitchen and in the other rooms of your hideout.

SRD Shorts: The New Narrator

Applying for jobs is becoming a real trend right now. Now, we can’t help with a form that asks for your resume and then makes you write out all of that same information, some of it more than once. Nothing will make up for the unending parade of postings that are actually just three children in a trench coat who found a "Help Wanted" sign and got carried away. Worst of all, we can’t save you from the Zoom call interview in which the interviewer forgets to turn off their camera before conducting your interview in the nude while eating quickly melting sorbet. Then a bird comes in and steals your teeth and… you know that one might not be a real thing. Anyway, give a listen to this recorded interview for someone who go the job, our New Narrator!
Anyway, of all the harrowing parts of job hunting, maybe we can help bring some levity to this one part, the recorded interview.

SRD Shorts: Quarantine (But Make It Fashion)

We’re all finding new ways to keep ourselves entertained and busy without being able to safely go out and get intoxicated around other people. Members of the cast and crew here at SRD have taken to all sorts of pastimes. Have you ever thought about how much time you could kill by creating 24 hour video in which your arms keep accurate time such that you could sync it up to be a functional clock if you started it at midnight? We are pleased to say we’re not doing it. We are displeased that the only reason is down to camera battery life restrictions. Shirley Showtime has managed to come up with some other interesting ways to keep busy, including recording this podcast.

SRD Shorts: Alphonse DuPont and the Case of the Purloined Pizza

Alphonse DuPont is an inspector from the French tradition. His pain et beurre relies on people laving their houses so their spouses can cheat on them, hide valuables and get into intrigues to do with the reliquary from the next village over which the local abbey has long held was stolen from them in the sixteenth century. As such his inspections of late have gotten… hyper local. Within two buildings sort of local. Artisanal you might say.

A few months ago wearing a mask and hiding in a lair seemed like the least heroic parts of heroism. Turns out, aside from covering the exact opposite parts of his face, the dark knight had the right idea all along. This short features a new new generation of heroes for the world we live in today.

Looking into the future would be pretty handy right now, huh? One can hardly be blamed for reaching toward whatever comfort or sense of order is available. Maybe a conspiracy theory about the amount of air in a bag of potato chips. That seems like a nice distraction, right? Hey, if it’s night time, you could try looking at the stars.

SRD Shorts: Awkward Hi-Kus

We’ve all had moments when the pure humanity of our situation transcends the personal and becomes universal. Waling into a plate glass door, falling down/up a long escalator and calling out to the wrong person in a crowd to name just a few. Now that universal situation is brought to your ears in a heightened, artistic form.

SRD Shorts: Bored

This may be the renaissance of boredom. As we all find our way through a world where our best company is limited to the number of people who live with you and the moving images of people who are farther away. You can only watch so much Netflix (quite a lot it turns out) before you need something else and people have proven quite creative. However, we have nothing compared to the true pioneers of passing time. Bored is here to put it all in perspective.

SRD Shorts: Llewellen Maltise, Talking Mime

Being good at things is relative. There are some who would tell you that a chef who cooks poorly should not be a chef. Perhaps they lead the kitchen really well and their team creates the best food you’ve ever eaten. Perhaps we once thought that a lifeguard should be able to swim. Not if they’re a TV lifeguard. Maybe we thought Zachary Taylor was the worst president… Anyway, Llewellen Maltise May not be the most silent mime that ever there was. He’s certainly the most radio friendly.
