What do you get when you store your science fiction and fantasy stories on the same shelf but then there’s a power outage, they get a little tipsy and then, before you know it, there’s a new title there in the middle? That’s exactly what we’re about to find out In season 1 of Zootheosis.

Welcome to Cerddoriaeth Celtica, a companion piece for the Starlight Radio Dreams series “Celtica”. When we conceived of Celtica the desire was to create an adventure serial which used music as part of the action and story. From using music to power Celtica’s magic tools to musical numbers for the big moments, Celtica does exactly that. And Cerddoriaeth Celtica lets us further explore the beauty of Celtic music, both as part of the serial and just for its own sake.
In this episode of Cerddoriaeth Celtica, Karolyn Blake, co writer for Celtica and the actor behind the title character, sings “Ar Lan y Môr” a song about lovers separated by the wide sea.
Even though this episode takes a brief break from engaging in pertinent issues, Starlight Radio Dreams continues to stand with protesters and to affirm that Black Lives Matter. Keep yourselves safe, and stay well.

In this episode of Cerddoriaeth Celtica, Karolyn Blake, co writer for Celtica and the actor behind the title character, sings Come Out Ye Black and Tans, an Irish protest song with lyrics by Dominic Behan and a tune by Piaras Mac Gearailt* (Pierce FitzGerald). It is a rousing tune with lyrics that inspire us to rise up against our oppressors. The world is in need of uprisings right now, and it’s hard to beat the Irish for a good old protest song!
Starlight Radio Dreams stands with protesters and affirms that Black Lives Matter. Keep yourselves safe, and stay well.
*In the episode, Karolyn mistakenly attributes the tune to “Pearse” as in Patrick Pearse. But she was just remembering the wrong Pierce!

Art is important. Spending all of one’s time on art is sometimes the most refreshing and rewarding thing a person can do. This piece is an homage to some of the most serious artistes out there. The ones who really ought to be in their studios practicing their craft instead of at the craft store judging your choice of acrylics. You’re going to glue googlie eyes to the thing too but this expert seems to think you need the french pigments… that one.

Enthusiasm is important. We strive to bring excitement to everything we do. Sometimes, that means just saying everything in as happy a tone as possible while all you can think about is that last ice cream bar in the back of the freezer and whether it feels sadness. Enjoy yet another moment of excitement from someone else’s mundane existence in this fresh short!

There comes a time in the life of any great piece of literature in which every single possible interpretation has been levied at it by well meaning literature students who are just trying to get through this class so that they can take the one with that one really cool professor who roasts his own coffee in the lecture hall. Shakespeare has gotten more that his fair share of hot takes, deep dives, metadata analyses and cultural studies. Here we collect some of the most extreme, mind bending attempts to make sense of the Bard of Avon.

Super heroes are big right now. Maybe its something to do with the lure of being able to solve world ending problems with a couple buddies instead of needing literally every human on earth to throttle a millionaire personally or wear a mask. The good news is that while no matter how many meteors we touch no one on the staff has gained super powers, we are all wearing masks. That feels like part of the way to needing our very own specially designed lair with lava rivers and stainless steel accents. This show came along at just the right time!

So, you’re at work and you look around the cube farm, past Susan’s planter of succulents. Over there, near the calendar, is a guy you’ve never seen before. Is he a sales rep from some other company? You didn’t know there were any meetings today. He’s talking to Isla and she seems to know who he is? Then her turns toward you and you don'‘t want him to think you’re staring but then you see that his face is a baby and then you remember that this isn’t how offices work anymore right as you wake up covered in sweat. This is like that but funnier.

Bridges are magical. They stand as a testament to humanity's willingness to say “screw you, nature. I’m walking here.” whether nature decided to put a river or a gorge or just some air in the place where we’ve decided to travel. Look at the Skyway. If that’s not a monument to hubris then I don’t know what is. Heck, in some places they make them in different shapes like the letters “s” and “y” or they put covers on them. We sure do love bridges. So you’re sure to love this short piece about a very special bridge.

Has anyone else started to find zoom calls comforting? There’s something about tucking your work shirt into a pair of yoga pants and pouring a little bourbon into a coffee mug that reminds you that old school meetings were only good because there were bagels sometimes. Our cats, on the other hand, may be ready for us to get back to the office and it’s nothing to do with your lack of slacks.

Applying for jobs is becoming a real trend right now. Now, we can’t help with a form that asks for your resume and then makes you write out all of that same information, some of it more than once. Nothing will make up for the unending parade of postings that are actually just three children in a trench coat who found a "Help Wanted" sign and got carried away. Worst of all, we can’t save you from the Zoom call interview in which the interviewer forgets to turn off their camera before conducting your interview in the nude while eating quickly melting sorbet. Then a bird comes in and steals your teeth and… you know that one might not be a real thing. Anyway, give a listen to this recorded interview for someone who go the job, our New Narrator!
Anyway, of all the harrowing parts of job hunting, maybe we can help bring some levity to this one part, the recorded interview.

We’re all finding new ways to keep ourselves entertained and busy without being able to safely go out and get intoxicated around other people. Members of the cast and crew here at SRD have taken to all sorts of pastimes. Have you ever thought about how much time you could kill by creating 24 hour video in which your arms keep accurate time such that you could sync it up to be a functional clock if you started it at midnight? We are pleased to say we’re not doing it. We are displeased that the only reason is down to camera battery life restrictions. Shirley Showtime has managed to come up with some other interesting ways to keep busy, including recording this podcast.

Alphonse DuPont is an inspector from the French tradition. His pain et beurre relies on people laving their houses so their spouses can cheat on them, hide valuables and get into intrigues to do with the reliquary from the next village over which the local abbey has long held was stolen from them in the sixteenth century. As such his inspections of late have gotten… hyper local. Within two buildings sort of local. Artisanal you might say.
